DESCRIPTION AND ACTION:
This product is manufactured in SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) embryos. This is a live virus vaccine for the prevention of infectious Bronchitis (IB) in chickens.
Infectious Bronchitis (IB) is an acute, highly contagious respiratory disease of chickens, IB is caused by a virus belonging to genus Coronavirus of the Coronoviridae family. The IB virus affects the respiratory, renal (kidney) and reproductive systems causing severe economic loss in the broiler and in the egg layer industry. Distributed worldwide, IBV is highly transmissible and is a tremendous hazard for unvaccinated flocks. Chickens of all ages are susceptible to IBV. Vaccination against IB has been successful to some extent but the fear of variant serotypes and their control continue to be a problem for the poultry industry.
IBV Serotypes
Several serotypes of antigenic variation or strain of IBV have been identified and continue to be isolated in most of the poultry producing countries in the world. The most common serotypes are Massachusetts and Connecticut. Arkansas strains, a Masschusetts serotype IB vaccine, has shown a rare ability to cross-protect against heterologous serotypes, thus making it potentially effective for controlling a broader range of serotypes.
COMPOSITIONS:
Each dose contains at least 102EID50 attenuated Infectious Bronchitis strain H120 and lyophilization stabilizers.
INDICATIONS:
This product is recommended for initial vaccination and revaccination of chicks for prevention of Infectious Bronchitis caused by Infectious Bronchitis Virus serotypes Massachusetts. It will induce active immunity in chickens, from one day-old onwards.
First vaccination may be given to birds at 1 day of age by coarse spray or oculo-nasal route. Vaccine can be administered in drinking water to older birds. It takes 14 to 18 days for specific antibodies to appear. Immunity may last for 4- 6 weeks.
PREPARATION OF VACCINE & METHOD OF VACCINATION
Chill (2 to 4oC) the provided diluent for at least 4 hours before vaccination. Take out the vaccine vial from cold storage just before vaccination and place in ice bath. Remove cap of the diluent bottle and fix the provided hypodermic needle (21G) on the spout. Remove the plastic flip-off seal from the vaccine vial and transfer 1- 2ml diluent into it by inserting the needle and squeezing the bottle. Shake the vaccine vial very gently (avoid vigorous shaking) and use the diluent bottle as a pump to withdraw reconstituted vaccine into the diluent bottle.
For nasal administration: Hold the chick firmly in one hand and place one finger over one of the nostrils while closing the beak with other fingers. Place one drop (one dose) on the other nostril and wait till the drop is sucked in.
For intraocular administration: Hold the chick on its side and apply one drop of vaccine in one of the eyes. Hold the bird tightly until the drop disappears thus not allowing the chick to shake off the vaccine.
For drinking water administration: Reconstitute the vaccine as described earlier. Pour the reconstituted vaccine into another clean vessel containing approximately 4 liters. Mix well and distribute according to the table below which also gives the quantity of skim milk powder (SMP) to be added for stabilization of vaccine during administration.
Method of vaccination
Discontinue all medication and disinfectant from drinking water 24 hours before and up to 24 hours after vaccination. Rinse and flush waterers with clean non-sanitized water. Water starve the flock for at least 2 hours prior to vaccination. Provide adequate space so that at least two thirds of birds can drink at a time.
WARNING
- Use only for healthy birds.
- Use only the sterile diluent supplied with the vaccine.
- Do not expose vaccine to either direct sunlight and extreme heat during vaccination.
- Use all the vaccine content at the first open.
- Burn all containers and unused vaccine according to the regulation.
