DISCRIPTION
Avac Gumboro Plus is freeze-dried virus vaccine for the prevention of infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) or Gumboro Disease in poultry. This product is manufactured in SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) embryos. Special characteristics of vaccine strain Rapid lateral spread.
The Avac Gumboro Plus vaccine strain in this product has been specifically developed and studied for it’s ability to grow and spread rapidly and laterally through growing chicks. The vaccine is administered strategically at a time when some chicks have become susceptible for vaccine virus. Such chicks then amplify the vaccine virus and transmit it horizontally to chicks lose their MAbs at a much faster rate the Avac Gumboro Plus vaccine strain becomes available to almost all the chicks by direct contact thus immunizing them even in the presence of relatively higher Maternal Antibodies while causing minimum effect on the Bursa of Fabricius.
COMPOSITION
Each dose of vaccine contains at least 102EID50 attenuated Gumboro virus strain Intermediate Plus and lyophilization stabilizers.
INDICATION
Immunization of Layers
In the layer birds hatched from vaccinated parents. The vaccine may be administered by Intra-ocular route or oral drop method. It is recommended that individual chicks are vaccinated when 1st vaccine is administered. A second vaccine should be given 10- 14 days later. In high incidence areas 3rd vaccine (Intermediate) is recommended. Second and 3rd vaccines may be given in drinking water.
Immunization of Broilers
The broiler chicks present a different population (as compared to layer chicks) with respect to productive life span, heterogeneity of MAb levels at hatch, the rare at which MAb decline and rearing on deep litter. Therefore, a different strategy is required to control IBD in broiler chicks. The prevention and control of IBD in broiler chicks must revolve around exploitation of horizontal spread through direct contact available in a deep litter brooding system. The Avac Gumboro Plus vaccine provides protection to broilers with a single dose if administered at the correct time.
1. The Avac Gumboro Plus vaccine strain is indicated in situation where IBD persists even after use of other invasive/ intermediate strains.
2. This product is recommended for initial vaccination and revaccination of broiler chicks for prevention of every virulent IBD.
3. First vaccination may be given to birds at 10 to 14 days of age by the oral drop or drinking water methods. The second vaccine may become unavoidable under following circumstances.
- In cases where parents have been administered inactivated IBD vaccine the hatches in the following 1- 2 months may bear very high levels of MAb analysis and in consultation with your poultry pathologist.
- In cases where multiple age housing is practiced and concurrent IBD is prevalent it may be advisable to adminnister intermediate strain (e.g. Avac Gumboro Int strain 2512) before placing the chicks on the litter followed by 10- 14 day Avac Gumboro Plus vaccine administration.
4. It is strongly recommended that MDA analysis is carried out for each batch to arrive at correct timing of vaccination.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Birds to be vaccinated should not be weak, debilitated diseased or in immuno-suppressive state. It is essential that birds be healthy, maintained under good management conditions and prevented from unnecessary exposure to stress conditions. Good sanitary and bio-security measures augment the preventive measures by giving the flock time to establish immunity.
PREPARATION OF VACCINE AND METHOD OF VACCINATION
Chill (2 to 4oC) the provided diluent for at least 4 hours before vaccination. Take out the vaccine vial from cold storage just before vaccination and place in ice bath. Remove the plastic flip-off seal from the vaccine vial and inject enough air into vial to break vacuum. Remove cap of the diluent bottle and withdraw 2ml of diluent in a suitable syringe and transfer it into vaccine vial. Allow the freeze dried vaccine to dissolve. Shake the vaccine vial very gently (avoid vigorous shaking to prevent frothing) and use the diluent bottle as a pump to withdraw reconstituted vaccine into the diluent bottle.
For oral administration: Hold the chick firmly in one hand while gently squeezing the beak to force open the mouth. Administer 1 drop into the mouth of the chick.
For intraocular administration: Hold the chick on its side and apply one drop of vaccine in one of the eyes. Hold the bird tightly until the drop disappears thus not allowing the chicks to shake off the vaccine.
For drinking water administration: Reconstitute the vaccine as described earlier. Pour the reconstituted vaccine into another clean vessel containing approximately 4 liters (or any other convenient volume for distribution into the waters). Mix well and distribute according to the table below which also gives the quantity of skim milk powder to be added for stabilization of vaccine during administration.
Method of vaccination
Discontinue all medication and disinfectant from drinking water 24 hrs. before and upto 24 hrs. after vaccination. Rinse and flush waterers with clean non-sanitized water. Water starve the flock for at least 2 hrs. prior to vaccination. Provide adequate space so that at least two thirds of birds can drink at a time.
WARNING
- Use only for healthy birds.
- Use only the sterile diluent supplied with the vaccine.
- Do not expose vaccine to either direct sunlight and extreme heat during vaccination.
- Use all the vaccine content at the first open.
- Burn all containers and unused vaccine according to the regulation.
